Healthy Relationships Workshops @ Stoneham Central Middle School
SAAV has partnered and trained with Crystal Johnson of MAAV (Melrose Alliance Against Violence) to present the Healthy Relationships Workshop to the 7th graders of the Stoneham Central Middle School.
We couldn’t be more proud of each student for their enthusiastic involvement and thoughtful input into this important discussion!
Our volunteers and community members came together to enjoy a night of refreshments, raffles and open discussion about the book “It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover. Despite the controversy surrounding the title, guests who attended the event remained focused on the important themes in the novel and had engaging conversations around real issues of domestic violence.
This event featured guest survivor speaker Danielle Sicard and was moderated by professionals in the field who were able to respond to questions and provide crucial context to the conversations.

White Ribbon Awareness Month @ the Library
SAAV partnered with the Stoneham Library to display an array of hands that had been uniquely decorated by community members - adults and children alike. Each participant wrote a message about how they will use their hands for healing, not hurting.
The library also helped us gather a variety of age-appropriate books to include in the display so visitors of any age could check out titles and learn more about healthy relationships & warning signs of unhealthy ones.
Healthy Teen Relationships: Virtual Parent Workshop
SAAV, in partnership with WAAV (Wakefield Alliance Against Violence), MAAV (Melrose Alliance Against Violence) and RESPOND, hosted and presented a virtual workshop for parents around topics of teen dating abuse.
Parents were given the opportunity to learn about how to help their teen navigate relationships, identify signs of unhealthy relationships and ways to approach tricky topics as teens enter new types of relationships.
So proud of our radKIDS! This group learned important skills in safety, defense, resilience and empowerment during a R.A.D. Kids course that lasted several weeks.
Many thanks to Kathy Conary and her team for suiting up and training our local kids, to SBCEF for funding this important project and to Stoneham Chamber for the use of the Commonhouse space.
Keep an eye on our calendar for more R.A.D. programs to be offered in the future for both women and children.
